Mrs. Pavese's 2nd Grade Class / Welcome!

Welcome to Mrs. Ryan’s second grade’s Class Notes!

I hope your second grader is beginning to feel comfortable in our classroom as we get to know one another better. Our first days were filled with review of routines, reading, and remembering…Routines were learned, stories were read aloud, and we are trying to remember many new things as this new year begins!

Thank you to all parents who’ve supplied your second grader with all of the necessities needed in our classroom. We are off to a great start! Already I see parents who are so invested in their child’s education and well-being and how wonderful and important that is! Thank you!

Literature plays a big role in second grade. Stories teach, entertain, and widen our worlds. They are also an invaluable tool to use to inspire young writers as they learn how to become authors themselves! Here are some we’ve shared together this past week….

Paperback A Letter From Your Teacher: On the First Day of School (The Classroom Community Collection) Book

Chrysanthemum Big Book

This story sparked a conversation about how our own summers were spent. This week we wrote our first writing piece, a personal narrative, where we shared our most favorite summer memory.

At this point in time, I’ll not only be taking inventory on each child’s supplies but also their academic strengths and weaknesses in order to best meet their needs and build upon the skills they already possess. Math, reading, and writing assessments were given this past week.

Important Notes:

Be sure your child gets a good night’s sleep each night and let’s not forget how important a healthy breakfast is in the morning before school! We will break for snack time each morning around 10:00 a.m. Remember to pack a snack and a refillable water bottle each day. Please initial your child’s planner each night.

LOOKING AHEAD:

•Back to School Night will be this Tuesday evening, September 17 at 7 p.m. I look forward to seeing you there!

•Book Orders are due in no later than Friday, Sept. 20th. Take a look at the flyer that was sent home Friday! Inspire your children to read!

Dear Lord,

As the summer begins to fade and new possibilities lie on the horizon, we begin this new school year asking that You might send Your spirit upon the children and fill them with Your wisdom and blessings. We thank You for the promise of the days ahead and for the blessing of Your accompaniment. Be with us this year.

Amen
