Reading-Unit 1 Text Set 2 (Two Week Outlook) Test 11/10 (Comprehension/Vocabulary/Grammar)
Wonders: In our Literature Anthology we will be reading two fictional texts, a fantasy, Little Flap Learns to Fly as well as a fictional story, Help! A Story of Friendship
•Spelling words- grass, trips, crack, still, west, nest, clap, plans, milk, belt, stop, by, he, she, mask Weekly Test Friday 11/4
•Vocabulary words- actions, afraid, depend, nervously, perfectly, rescued, peered, secret
•Making inferences using text and illustrations throughout the story
•Identify/describe main story elements in a literary text
Phonics Focus
•2 letter blends, short a, long a_e, inflectional endings -ed, -ing
Writing
•Focus on a topic and write a narrative using a sequence of events, transitions and ending
•Reflect and respond to our reading by writing in our Reading/Writing Companion, understanding how we use text evidence to support our responses
•Write sentences that make sense and proofread to be sure they include appropriate punctuation and capitalization
•poetry/writing journals-fall poems and November writing prompts
Grammar
•review types of sentences: commands, exclamations, interjections
•subjects/predicates in a sentence
Handwriting
•manuscript letters Mm, H h, V v, Y y, W w, X x, K k, Z z
•focusing on size of our letters in our daily work-differentiating between letters that touch headline/midline/baseline

Important Information and News:
•Thank you to Mrs. Bumpass and Mrs. King who have coordinated donations as well as a fun craft for our fall/pumpkin second grade celebration taking place on Monday, October 31. Students may wear orange on Monday for National Bullying Prevention month
•Next Friday 11/11 school will be closed in observance of Veteran’s Day
•Keep November 17th open on your calendars for Parent Teacher Conferences. Be sure to look for incoming information from the Main Office regarding specifics on signing up for a time slot

•Homework Please encourage as much independence as possible when completing homework. Homework is expected to be done neatly. The children will be writing their assignments in their planners.
