Reading

Wonders: How are families around the world the same and different? We will read a realistic fictional story this week, Maria Celebrates Brazil

•story elements such as characters, setting, problem, and solution

•vocabulary words and their meanings

We will complete our novel study of Herbie Jones Sails into Second Grade and discuss the sequence of events

Spelling-Practice Test Thursday

Our words for this week include has, wag, bad, six, will, sat, had, fix, him, if, can, hit, why, for, help

Phonics Focus

•long a,i, vowel sounds

Writing

•respond to reading in our Reading/Writing Companion

•poetry/writing journals-fall poems and October writing prompts

•writing good sentences that make sense, making sure our sentences have punctuation and capitalization

•review of complete/incomplete sentences as well as differentiating between statements and questions

Important Information and News: 

There will be no school this Friday 10/21 due to Professional Development Day.

Mrs. Bumpass and Mrs. King will be coordinating donations for our fall/pumpkin second grade celebration being held on Monday, October 31.

Please send in $10 per student for craft/party supplies if you have not done so already. A note has been sent home. Thank you! 

•Homework Please encourage as much independence as possible when completing homework. Homework is expected to be done neatly. The children will be writing their assignments in their planners. Kindly initial their planner each night. Take Home Folders will need to be emptied every night as well. Thank you!

•Snack should be sent in daily as well as a refillable water bottle.

•Please label all uniform sweaters with your child’s name
