Welcome to Grade 2’s Class Notes!
Valentine’s Day is this Friday! If your child is interested in sending in valentines, please be sure to count everyone in! We have 8 students. The children may bring them in any time this week. We will have a simple celebration on Friday, February 14th which will include a snack and activity/craft. Also note that a small box is needed by Thursday. We will be making valentine boxes. Please send in an empty shoebox, tissue box, or cereal box. Thank you!
Please note that school is closed the week of February 17-21 for winter break. Enjoy!
Last call! The children received a Scholastic Book order form last week. If you are interested in purchasing, please do so no later than this Monday, Feb.10. Simply order online and use our class code QDLHJ. Your purchases help acquire new books for our own classroom library!
We’ve been learning to sign and sing America the Beautiful every morning during our Morning Meeting!
Please remember that second grade has Library every Thursday. Take a look at the books they choose and please continue to encourage reading and returning them on time each week.
It’s that time of the year! Some children are in need of supplies such as pencils, erasers, glue sticks, and crayons. Reminders will be written in their planners. Thank you!
Are you interested in visiting our classroom to share some fun and read a book to our class? If so, please let me know as soon as possible so we can set up a date! We’d love to have you! Who will be our next MYSTERY READER?
A Glimpse of the Week Ahead… (Please note that subjects with an * indicate assessment taking place)

Reading-This week will be a writing week. We will focus on writing stronger sentences that always include punctuation and capitalization. We’ll be answering journal prompts and writing stories and opinions. Other goals include writing longer sentences with more complex ideas and descriptive words (stretching our sentences) while writing legibly. As authors of our writing, we will think about and brainstorm ideas first, write down ideas, revise, and add details. In addition to constructing our own sentences into paragraphs, we will be correcting sentences and adding quotation marks to dialogue in the activities “Writing Sentence Fix-Up” and “Snowman Talk.”
