Welcome to my First Grade notes!
Here’s a look at what we will be doing this week!

Spelling- The new words for this week are: so, go, home, hole, no, rope, joke, bone, stove, poke. The spelling tests are about to get easier! Since there are now 10 spelling words, I will not be including the more difficult “R” book words on the spelling tests. They will still need to be able to read the “R” book words fluently for the vocabulary portion of the reading tests. The children will write their 10 spelling words 3x each by Tuesday. They should write 6 sentences by Wednesday. Spelling test will be on Friday.

Phonics- long o and u

Language Arts- questions; suffixes; narrative writing

Reading: We have started our 4th reading book! The story this week is Let’s go to the Moon! Please have your child read it at home before the test. We have completed the first of two reading workbooks, which was sent home. The “R” book words are: around, bring, show, because, carry, think, before, and light. The reading tests will be given on Friday.

Math- measurement and time

Science- Test Thursday on Chapter 4-study sheets were sent home

There will be a fundraiser pancake breakfast at Applebees on March 14th. Tickets will be sold in advance. A note went home with the details. The first grade is going to make up a raffle basket (a lottery ticket tree) and we would like to ask each student to bring in $2 by the end of next week. Thank you for your help!

The first graders will be singing in church on Sunday, March 15th! Mr. DeVries sent home a memo with more information.
