Hello everyone! We are off to a fresh start on this glorious autumnal morning. We have much to complete before the long weekend. To start, The month of October is Anti-bullying Awareness month. We are encouraging the students to be kind and respectful of their peers and to display God-pleasing behavior. In other news, the Yankee Candle fundraiser will be concluding on Friday, October 10th. The prices are the same as the products in the store, but Trinity will receive a good portion of the profit. Please spread the word and place your order! In other the 8th grade students will take the LuHI admissions test this Friday morning, here at Trinity, and the Terra Nova Exam will be administered Tuesday through Thursday of next week.

8th Social Studies

This week we will begin studying Reconstruction, which is found in Chapter 16. The students will be studying the issues that resulted from not only the Civil War, but also the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and how the nation was changed as a result.

8th Math: Pre-Algebra

The students in Pre-Algebra will be taking a quiz on Lesson 2.1 tomorrow (Tuesday), which will cover the rules of using exponents in expressions. Lesson 2.2 will introduce scientific notation and that format is used in real life situations.  On a related note, if your child does not have a scientific calculator, it is imperative that he or she have one for this chapter. In addition to learning mathematical skills, the students are also learning how to use the different functions of the calculator.

8th Religion

The students will continue to work their way through the book of Genesis this week, and we will study the life of Joseph and how God used a terrible case of sibling rivalry and jealousy to do great things. One of the students commented that a lot of the Old Testament reads like a soap opera, and I quite agree! The events might have happened thousands of years ago, but there are still many lessons to be learned and applied to the 21st century. On a related note, the Tough Times Took Kit project is due next Wednesday, which challenges the students to use the Bible to tackle modern day issues.

Due to the LuHi test on Friday morning, the Memory quiz will be given on Thursday. The verse for this week is Romans 8:28.
