READING- This week we’ll ask , “How does weather change in different months and seasons?” In Every Season,  we’ll explore the relationship between seasons and the weather and in Jump into Januarywe’ll find out how weather affects what we do outside. We’ll also read Holidays All Year Long and learn about different celebrations. This weeks high frequency words are: come, me. We will listen for the “short a” sound in the middle of a word, as in “pat,” and blend sounds to read new words. The class will also compare and contrast texts to tell how they are alike and different, learn to ask questions, practice oral fluency by pausing for punctuation, and identify the “subject” of a sentence. (A subject tells who or what the sentence is about, i.e. “The mouse ran.” The mouse is the subject.)

MATH- The students are learning number pairs for 8 and 9. Next week there will be a Math test. A study sheet will be sent home soon with the material to review, and the day and date of the test.

RELIGION- We are celebrating Lutheran School Week. The class will be involved in praying for others, learning the importance of kindness to others, and discussing things that families do together.

SCIENCE- Our discussion will focus on “fun with ice and snow.”

SOCIAL STUDIES- We’ll discuss the difference between wants and needs.

WRITING- We will write our own sentences to describe our shape pictures.
