READING- “Why do people have to take care of their pets?” is our essential question. We’ll discover answers to this question by reading and discussing the following books and stories, I Have a Pet, Please, Puppy, Please, Different Kinds of Dogs, My Cat, Baby Bear’s Family, and The Party. In addition we’ll learn the high frequency word “the,” review recognition of letters, “Uu-Zz, identify beginning sounds in given words, learn to identify and use synonyms,(words that have the same or almost the same meaning), identify story structure, and learn that nouns are words that name animals and things. You can help by discussing our essential question, and reviewing the high frequency words learned thus far.

MATH- The class will complete chapter 2 in Math on Friday, 10/14. Our focus will be on counting, writing and comparing numbers 1-5 using the terms, “the same as” or “equal,” “greater or more than,” “less or fewer than.” You can help by counting objects at home and using the Math vocabulary to compare different sets. Study pages and more information will be sent home Friday, 10/14 so you can help your child review for our test on Tuesday, 10/18.

RELIGION- Our next Bible story will be Noah and the Flood.

SOCIAL STUDIES- We will discuss “Who is Columbus?” and “Why is he a historical figure of importance?” The class will “explore” our school building and learn about school/church helpers.

SCIENCE- The class will continue to learn about living and non-living things.

HANDWRITING- Practicing placing numbers on the lines correctly and the correct written forms of their name is our objective again this week.

REMINDERS

Uniform shorts and sneakers may no longer be worn to school. Jumpers and pants must be worn with shoes, even on Gym days. Girls may wear shorts under their jumper.
