The students worked very hard on their Terranova exams last week.  This was the first year that the tests incorporated the Common Core curriculum and some sections were difficult.  I encouraged the class to remain focused and rely on their prior knowledge to the best of their abilities.

We have two major exams this week and we reviewed in class last week.  students should be studying at home as well.

Week of: October 21-25

Spelling: poet, coast, pillow, hotel, also, clothes, pony, bold, moment, obey, grown, hello, motel, boast, glow, goal, poem, shown, hero, told

Vocabulary:  contribute, policy, sponsor, weary

Writing Journal Assignment:  Choose a role model.  This should be someone with qualities that you admire.  Write a paragraph about this person and include details about how you hope to be like them.  (6-8 sentences)

Math: End of Module 1 Assessment

Science: Test on Chapter 5

Social Studies: Native Americans of New York

Reading: Ongoing free reading in class, reading notebook, conferencing

Language Arts:  Review of Unit 1 (test will be next week)

Religion: daily devotions

Tests:

  • Tuesday – Science, Chapter 5
  • Thursday – Memory Quiz, Math Module 1
  • Friday – Spelling

Important News:

  • Please note that this week’s Math Extra Help Class will be held THURSDAY at 7:45am in our classroom.
  • This Friday is our first Social Studies Friday with activities planned around our new Social Studies Chapter.
  • On Wednesday, students should come to school dressed up in their best clothing.
  • On Thursday, students should come to school dressed in sports team or athletic wear.
  • On Friday, students should come to school dressed in something PINK.
