Hello Fabulous Fourth Grade Families,

It is an exciting week in fourth grade! We will be going on our first field trip on Wednesday October 2nd. As a reminder this is a non-uniform trip. Students must wear long pants and sneakers. Please be sure to dress for the weather as part of the trip will be outdoors and it is often cooler by the water. We will be leaving Trinity at approximately 9am and returning around 2pm. I cannot wait to explore the Fire Island Lighthouse with this AMAZING class!

Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:

ELA: This week we will focus our ELA on finishing our first class read aloud Because of Winn-Dixie, as well as reading the shared text Animal Adaptations. We will be working on the skill of summarizing. We will also continue our first writing unit focusing on writing a good paragraph. We will be using the RACE strategy to outline our responses. In grammar we are looking at compound sentences.

Math: This week in Math we begin our study of Unit 2: Multiplication and Division Problems. Module 3 is titled on Interpret and Solve Problem Situations. It is vital that your child knows their multiplication facts, a few minutes of fact review at home daily is extremely benificial. Please help them Helpful handouts, videos, charts, reteach pages, and the HW can all be found on Google Classroom and are excellent resources.

Religion: This week we finish our study of the Old Testament. We will be focusing on the first section of the old testament, the major and minor prophets. As we begin to wrap-up our study of the Old Testament, please note that there will be a quiz on Friday 10-4. A review sheet will be completed on Tuesday. Students must know the order of books in the old testament.

Social Studies: This week in S.S. we continue our study of the geography of New York. We will begin Chapter 2- Three World Meet. We will be learning about the Algonquin and Haudenosaunee or Iroquis people.

Science: This week we will begin our first unit of science called Waves of Sound. Our driving question is, what would happen if you screamed in outer space?

Blessings,

Ms. Stainkamp
