This week we will be doing a variety of lessons and activities to start our school year off strong. It is important that starting on Monday students bring in a charged chromebook to school each day. Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:
ELA: This week we will continue our first class book, Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo. As we read together we will be focusing on learning good reading habits such as self monitoring, and comprehension strategies. There will be a spelling test on Friday 9-23, with words pulled out of Because of Winn-Dixie. In vocabulary we will be starting unit 1, Diary of a Rising Star.
Math: This week in Math we will finish Unit 1: Place Value and Whole Number Operations. Module 1 focuses on the place value of whole numbers. We will have our first math quiz on Wednesday 9-21, and a test on 9-22. The quiz and test are similar, and quiz corrections can be completed to earn back points. (I will be going over the math quiz and test policies during back to school night.)
Religion: This week we begin our unit on the 6 traits of good character in relation to the fruits of the spirit. This week we are discussing caring and perseverance.
Social Studies: This week we will begin our first chapter of S.S., The Geography of New York. We will be exploring the location, climate, and weather of NY state.
Science: This week we will begin our first unit in science, exploring the human body. Specifically answering the question, why do biceps bulge?
