Welcome to the first official full week of Fourth Grade!! This week we will be doing a variety of lessons and activities to start our school year off strong. Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:

ELA: This week we will start our first class book, Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo. As we read together we will be focusing on learning good reading habits such as self monitoring, and comprehension strategies. There will be a spelling test on Friday 9-22, with words pulled out of Because of Winn-Dixie.  In grammar we are learning about the types of sentences.

Math: This week in Math we begin Unit 1: Place Value and Whole Number Operations. Module 1 focuses on the place value of whole numbers. We will have our first math quiz on Wednesday 9-20, and a test on 9-21. The quiz and test are similar, and quiz corrections can be completed to earn back points. (I will be going over the math quiz and test policies during back to school night.)

Religion: This week we begin our unit on the 6 traits of good character in relation to the fruits of the spirit. This week we are discussing responsibility and respect. We will also be talking about our class bible verse and how it related to our school wide theme of kindness.

Social Studies: We will be beginning S.S. next week 🙂

Science: This week we will be learning about the scientific method and how scientists use it. Additionally we will be completing our first science lab, The Tootsie Pop Tally.
