Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:

ELA: This week we will focus our ELA on finishing our first class read aloud Because of Winn-Dixie, as well as reading the shared text Anansi and the Birds. We will be working on the skill of summarizing, as well as looking at character development. We will also continue our first writing unit focusing on writing a good paragraph. Our first formal writing assignment is a Because of Winn-Dixie scrapbook. We will be working on this throughout the week. Additionally, we will not have a reading log this week, students should work on their writing instead. We will be using the RACE strategy to outline our responses. In grammar we are looking at complex sentences.

Math: This week in Math we begin our study of Unit 2: Multiplication and Division Problems. Module 3 is titled on Interpret and Solve Problem Situations. There will be a quiz on Wednesday 10-9, and a test on Thursday 10-10. It is vital that your child knows their multiplication facts, a few minutes of fact review at home daily is extremely beneficial. Please help them Helpful handouts, videos, charts, reteach pages, and the HW can all be found on Google Classroom and are excellent resources.

Religion: This week we will begin our Religion Kindness Challenge for the month of October. We will be reading the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, as well as looking at a variety of verses dealing with kindness and inclusion.

Social Studies: This week in S.S. we continue our study of the geography of New York. We will begin Chapter 2- Three World Meet. We will be learning about the Northwest Passage and the Columbian Exchange. Our Social Studies projects are also due on Tuesday. We will be having our New York State Parade on Wednesday 10-10 directly following chapel.

Science: This week we will begin our first unit of science called Waves of Sound. Our driving question is, why are some sounds high and some sounds low?

Blessings,

Ms. Stainkamp
