Hello Fabulous Fourth Grade Families,
Merry Christmas! I cannot wait to see the students shine at the concert on Tuesday 12-10! They have been working so hard the past few weeks to ensure that it is a success!!
Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:
ELA: This week we continue our read-aloud The Last Holiday Concert, by Andrew Clements. We will focus on plot and summarizing. There will be a spelling test on 12-13 based on words from The Last Holiday Concert. There will be a book based comprehension test on 12-19. In writing we will be working on creating our picture book retelling of the Christmas Story. In grammar we will be learning about possessive nouns.
Math: This week in math we are focusing on Module 10, Algebraic Thinking and Number Theory. This lesson focuses around factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers, and number patterns. There will be a quiz on Friday 12-6. We will also be working on assembling our area gingerbread houses throughout the next two weeks. These will be counted as a test grade. The quiz for Module 10 will be on 12-19, and the test will be on 12-20. Please help them Helpful handouts, videos, charts, reteach pages, and the HW can all be found on Google Classroom and are excellent resources.
Religion: This week we will be learning about Advent, and the Christmas story. Students will be working on creating a picture book that retells the Christmas story!
Social Studies: This week we will begin our study of the American Revolution. We will be focusing on why the revolution began, and differentiating between loyalists and patriots.
Science: This week in science we will continue our unit of study, The Birth of Rocks. In this lesson, students gather evidence to describe how environments on Earth have changed over time. Students explore how the process of sedimentary rock formation preserves a record of those past environments. In the activity, Canyon Explorer, students observe fossils found within a model canyon. The characteristics of those fossils provide evidence to support the explanation that the landscape has changed numerous times.
Blessings,
Ms. Stainkamp
