Hello Fabulous Fourth Grade Families,

Merry Christmas! I am beyond proud of each and every student who participated in the Christmas Concert! It was an incredible show! I would like to wish each one of you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:

ELA: This week we will finish our read-aloud The Last Holiday Concert, by Andrew Clements. There will be a book based comprehension test on 12-19. In writing we will be working on finishing our picture book retelling of the Christmas Story. We will also be Students will also write a letter to tell the true meaning of Christmas to participate in Macy’s Believe Campaign. For more information about the Macy’s Believe Campaign please visit https://wish.org/massri/macys-believe-campaign. In grammar we will be reviewing the different types of nouns.

Math: This week in math we are focusing on Module 10, Algebraic Thinking and Number Theory. This lesson focuses around factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers, and number patterns. We will also be working on assembling our area gingerbread houses throughout the next two weeks. These will be counted as a test grade. The quiz for Module 10 will be on 12-19, and the test will be on 12-20. Please help them Helpful handouts, videos, charts, reteach pages, and the HW can all be found on Google Classroom and are excellent resources.

Religion: This week we will be learning about Advent, and the Christmas story. Students will be working on creating a picture book that retells the Christmas story!

Social Studies: This week we contuine our study of the American Revolution. We will be focusing on why the revolution began, and differentiating between loyalists and patriots, as well as continuing to talk about the causes leading to the beginning of the revolution.

Science: This week in science we will continue our unit of study, The Birth of Rocks. In this lesson, students will learn about the types, causes, and dangers of landslides. In the activity, Slide City, students are faced with the engineering problems of protecting a house from a landslide and preventing a landslide from happening. They use a brainstorming technique to design creative solutions. Additionally students will be learning about the three types of rocks and how to differentiate between them.
