The 4th graders have a busy week ahead! Please take a moment to review what we will be covering over this week. It is important that students bring in a charged chromebook to school each day.

Our Physical Education Special on Tuesday has been moved to Thursdays at 10:40-11:20 for the month of December. Please be sure that your child wears sneakers on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s for December.

As the weather begins to get colder please ensure that your child is bringing an appropriate jacket to school each day. We will be going outside every day we can, it is important that your child is dressed appropriately.

Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:

**In both ELA and Social Studies we will also be working on studying another country and learning about their Christmas traditions. Each student will learn about a different country. Students will have the opportunity to present what they learned with the class on the Monday and Tuesday before break.

ELA: This week in ELA we will be working on the skill of Characterization. We are going to finish our class-read aloud, The Last Holiday Concert. We will be working on creating a character map of Hart Evans. We will also be reading a variety of articles from the December edition of Scholastic Storyworks.

Math: This week in math we will begin module 9, learning how to calculate area. We will complete lessons 1-4 in IntoMath. Instead of having a quiz/test on Module 9 we will complete a project as a class, Area/Perimeter Christmas Trees. This project will be counted as both the quiz and the test.

Religion: This week we will continue our unit on Prayer. We will also begin to prepare for the season of Advent. The class has been challenged to do one Random Act of Kindness (RACK) each day for the month of December. We will be creating a paper chain of our RACK’s with the hope to have the chain go from the floor to the ceiling. We are also working on writing our own version of the Christmas Story.

Social Studies: This week we continue Chapter 4, The Revolutionary War in New York State. Specifically we will be continuing our lesson on the reasons the Revolutionary War began. We will also be learning about the Declaration of Independence.

Science: This week we will continue our current unit, The Birth of Rocks, exploring the question What did your town look like 100 million years ago? We will also be making borax snowflakes to help us get excited for Christmas.

I am looking forward to a fantastic week with a fabulous group of fourth graders.

Blessings,

Ms. Stainkamp
