Hello fabulous fourth grade families,
Merry Christmas! I am looking forward to learning many new concepts this week with this amazing fourth grade class!

Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:

ELA: This week in ELA we will be reading our next class read aloud The Last Holiday Concert, by Andrew Clements. We will be focusing on this novel for the next two weeks. Our skills will be characterization, and how a character’s viewpoint changes over time. This week in writing we will be writing our own version of the Christmas Story. Each student will be making a book telling the 7 parts of the story of Jesus’ birth. Students will also write a letter to tell the true meaning of Christmas to participate in Macy’s Believe Campaign. For more information about the Macy’s Believe Campaign please visit https://wish.org/massri/macys-believe-campaign
There will also be a spelling test on 12-15 on words in The Last Holiday Concert.

Math: This week in math we start and finish module 9, apply multiplication to area. There will be no quiz or test. We will be completing a gingerbread project to apply our knowledge of area. It is important to continue to review fact fluency at home to reinforce the skills taught in school. As always helpful videos and resources can be found on Google Classroom.

Religion: This week in religion we will learn about the Christmas Story and write our own version of the Christmas Narrative.

Social Studies: This week in S.S. we will focus on finishing our Chapter 3 brochures, which will be due on Thursday December 14th. We will also be celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party by completing a STEAM project challenging us to create a crate that can protect the tea from the water in the harbor.

Science: In science we will be starting our second unit of study, Waves of Sound. We will be focusing on the question: How do you send a secret code?

Blessings,
Ms. Stainkamp
