Hello Fabulous Fourth Grade Families,
Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:
ELA: In ELA we will finish our class read-aloud, Holes by Louis Sachar. We will be focusing on understanding Stanley Yelnats character development and growth during the book. There will be a novel choice board for Holes due on Wednesday 4-16. This will be graded as a test grade. We will also begin our next novel, I Survived the Battle of Gettysburg by Lauren Tarshis. Unfortunately, I do not have a class set of this text. If your child would like to read-along please bring in a copy 🙂 In grammar we will continue learning about verbs. In writing we will continue our unit on narrative stories.
Math: This week in math we finish module 16, multiplying fractions. There will be a quiz for module 16 on Tuesday 4-8, and a test on Wednesday 4-9. We will also begin module 17, Two-Dimensional Figures. There will be a quiz on Wednesday 4-16, but no test. As always it is important to continue to review fact fluency at home to reinforce the skills taught in school. As always helpful videos and resources can be found on Google Classroom.
Religion: This week we will be learning about the ministry of Jesus.
Social Studies: We will begin Ch. 6, Social Change and the Civil War. We will be learning specifically about the Erie Canal.
Science: This week we will continue the unit of science, Electricity, Light, & Heat. In this week’s lesson, students investigate how energy transfers when objects collide. In the activity, Bumper Jumper, students ask questions and make predictions about how far a marble will launch over a jump after colliding with other objects.
STEM Lab: The 4th and 5th grade will also be learning about Bio Inspired Engineering concepts over the next 5 weeks. Students will be exploring the concept of camouflage.
Blessings,
Ms. Stainkamp
