The children enjoyed learning about pumpkins this week.  They made a cute craft of the “Five Little Pumpkins” while strengthening their counting skills.  We had fun dissecting a pumpkin and the students were able to build upon their vocabulary as they described the different parts of a pumpkin.  We also enacted Five Little Pumpkins while signing the song and using hand gestures.

Next week we will begin our science unit on bats.  We will learn all about bats and read  the books, “Stellaluna” by Janell Cannon and “Bo The Bat” by Alma Hammond.  Stellaluna is one of my favorite books to read in class.  For this week during centers, we will do several batty activities that are related to the book.  We will also strengthen our vocabulary by learning some bat-related terms, as well as words to describe emotions such as anxious and embarrassing.  This week we will not be learning a new letter, however we will be reviewing the letters we have learned thus far.

For our math lesson this week, the students will be making a Bat Counting Book. The children will continue to explore counting and number identification through this activity.

For Jesus Time, we will talk about how God created bats and all animals.  We will continue singing the songs, “Jesus’ Love is Bubbling Over” and “My God is so Great.”
