February was off to an exciting start.  We celebrated Lunar New Year and watched Punxsutawney Phil declare six more weeks of winter! Whew! The excitement continues because even though February is a short month, we have a lot to learn about! This week and next we will be covering Black History Month, Dental Health Month, President’s Day, and we will celebrate Valentine’s Day, all before the most anticipated winter break!

This week we will talk about the color “red” and the heart shape.  We have a few crafts that we will continue to work on for Valentine’s Day. We will talk about music and listen to “What a Wonderful World” as we talk about Louis Armstrong for Black History Month.  For centers, we will do music play as we talk about different instruments and learn about how music makes us experience different emotions.

We will read The Jazz Fly and Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb. For Jesus time we will tie the song “What a Wonderful World” into a discussion about the wonderful world that God has created for us. We will also learn a Valentine’s Day song, “5 Little Hearts”. Last week we made cozy winter hats and the children loved them so much.  This week we will be making cozy winter boots!

Upcoming Important Dates:
February 15: ECC3 Day (students and teachers wear red to school)
