Dear Parents,
We had a great week learning about all about Narwhals. We have completed our unit on Arctic animals and will be making a folder to keep our projects inside and send them home. The children learned a lot about the different Arctic animals and had fun making crafts. We also talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and the impact he made on the world about equality. The children reinforced their fine motor skills by doing rainbow writing with the letter “M”, and practicing cutting.
This week, the children will learn about the letter “G” for groundhog. They will learn how to recognize, sound out and trace the letter G. We will be learning about Groundhogs Day and how we see a shadow. For our science experiment this week, the kids will make a groundhog puppet. We will turn out the lights and shine a flashlight on the SmartBoard so the children can see their groundhog’s shadow! We will also take a poll on who thinks the groundhog will see their shadow and if Spring will come early or not.
We will make a Chinese lantern and talk to the children about the Chinese New Year and the different ways they celebrate their holiday.
For math instruction, we will continue learning our numbers using ten frames.
For religious instruction, we will be teaching the children how “Jesus calls the disciples.”
