I can’t believe we are already getting ready to welcome in the month of February with so much snow! I’m excited to teach the kids about Groundhog Day, Black History Month, Dental Health Month, President’s Day, and celebrate Valentine’s Day.  For the shortest month of the year, it packs a punch!

Monday is the final day of Lutheran School’s Spirit Week and the theme is Cultural Heritage Day.  We are blessed to live in such a diverse community and I’m excited to share that with our class. I hope everyone will participate and wear something representing their culture.  We will have snacks from different cultures to share with the class.  It is a great opportunity for everyone to learn about the different cultural backgrounds their friends come from.

Wednesday is Groundhog Day! We will learn about Punxsutawney Phil and we will make a prediction as to whether or not he will see his shadow. We will also make a fun groundhog day craft that you’re sure to love!

This week we will also resume our Mother Goose Time curriculum. This month’s theme is Cozy Winter Senses and this week, we will focus on the topic of Outdoor Sights and Sounds.  The children will explore the sights and sounds in nature such as the hoot of an owl, the crack of ice and the ringing of bells.  We will make tracks by winter animals, look for winter birds, listen to owls and explore the science of ice and icicles.

We will read Five Little Penguins, Groundhog Day, and Snow Birds. Jesus time this week will tie into our Cultural Heritage celebration and we will talk about how God made us different and unique yet he loves each and everyone of us.  We will also learn that Jesus knows each one of us by name and he loves all the little children of the world.
