What an exciting first week of school we had.  The children are doing a wonderful job getting used to our class routines.  We began our week learning about one another during our “All About Me” unit.  We learned about the children’s favorite foods, colors, ice cream flavors, and saw a picture of their family.

Next week we will begin our science unit on apples.  We will learn about the life cycle of an apple tree and explore the story of Johnny Appleseed.  We will read the books, “Johnny Appleseed” by Madeline Olsen,  “Big Red Apple” by Tony Johnston, and “Johnny” by Leslie Falconer.  The children will learn all about how apple trees grow and make apple presses for our communal wall.

For our math lesson this week, we will show the children how to count by reading the book, “Ten Apples up on Top” by Dr. Seuss.  The children will then create their own book by using red dot markers to make ten apples on top of their head.  We will also have an apple taste testing in class and make a graph of which color apple they liked best.  I can’t wait for Friday when our class will be making applesauce in class and enjoying our delicious treat!

Our class will start going to the library on Monday and will go every Monday for the rest of the school year.  The children will be able to borrow a book to take home.  The book is due back to return to the library the following Monday.

During Jesus time, we will speak to the children about God’s Creation.  We will read the book “All God’s Critters” by Bill Staines.  The children are learning a new prayer which we will recite each time before they eat their snack.

Reminders:

  • Please send in your child’s nap mat if you have not done so already.
  • Please send in your child’s “All About Me” project, if you have not done so already, so they can present them in class.
