We hope that everyone was able to enjoy a happy and healthy holiday season with their friends and families. Now it’s back to work and back to school in the new year, 2023!
January is here and the new calendar year has begun! We are excited to talk about our hopes and dreams for 2023! We will begin the new year with a study of the season of winter. We will explore the changes this new season brings.
Winter is the coldest time of the year and that means time to get ready for snow and ice here in the northeast. We will discover the science behind what makes ice form and the structure of an ice crystal snowflake. We will freeze water into ice and explore what happens to ice at different temperatures: Ice begins with the letter Ii, so naturally we will explore the letter I and the sounds it makes. We will count to five while performing the fingerplay, “5 Chilly Snowmen.” Table top actives will include winter lacing cards and sugar cube crystal castle building. Our learning play centers will have a variety of exciting activities. Sensory will have exploring a block of ice with ice droppers of colored water. The STEM center will have MagnaTiles to build with. The Literacy center will have books on winter and letter Ii work boards as well. We will transform our Dramatic play center into an ice cream shoppe. Our Art center will offer daily projects including winter trees art, snowflake mask paintings, snowstorm process art and snowman name crafts.
This Friday, we will celebrate the Feast of the Three Kings. We will read about the Three Kings and sing, “We Three Kings.” We will discuss our unique gifts and talents that God has gifted us with.
