Welcome to another beautiful fall week! Last week we had so much fun learning about bats and big words like echolocation. We put on our thinking hats and came up with lots of words that start with the letter Cc for Cc week. We also learned about Fire Prevention week, we visited chapel on Wednesday, and we watched the video “Franklin and His Night Friend”.
This week we will be continuing with our family unit with the topic “We take care of each other”. We will read Mama Zooms, My Day From A to Z, and Too Many Tamales. Our new vocabulary words will be: caring, cousins, feelings, and love.
Our letter for the week will be Dd. We will practice writing the letter D, we will trace some D words, and we will put on our thinking hats again to create a list of Dd words. I am also going to bring back something I used to do pre-Covid that was a lot of fun and reinforced the letter sound. On Friday of every week I would like each child to bring in something from home that starts with the letter from that week and we will have Show and Tell. This week that would be on Thursday since school is closed for Professional Development. I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
Math this week will be about #6, black, and hexagon. We will also be comparing and measuring objects using the terms: longer, longest, shorter, and shortest.
Science this week will be about spiders and skeletons. We will learn that spiders are not insects, they are arachnids. They have 8 legs, 8 eyes, and 2 body parts. We will also learn about skeletons and have x-rays to look at on the light table. We will also learn that the largest bone in your body is your femur. We will also read Eric Carle’s Very Busy Spider.
We will also have a fun new sensory table this week: muddy pigs. I will be making brown ooblek for the kids to play with. It is such a cool substance. Ooblek is more formally called a non-Newtonian fluid. When you move your hand slowly through the ooblek it acts like a liquid and flows. If you hit your hand quickly on the ooblek, or squeeze it in your hand, it acts like a solid. I will be adding toy pigs to the ooblek for a fun, sensory experience.
Jesus time this week will be about Jacob and Rachel having a baby. We are learning songs like The B-I-B-L-E, and Jesus Loves Me.
