One of the most asked-about concerns from parents of young children has to do with Reading.  So many parents are concerned that their child is not going to learn to read.

My answer to them is usually, RELAX!!!  Children learn at different rates and acquire reading skills at different milestones and learn in different ways.

There are, however, strategies that can be used to facilitate the acquisition of skills in Reading.  In the Learning Center I use a multi-sensory approach.  This involves having the child use all their senses-listening, seeing saying, and touching.  If you are trying to help your child learn to read their word list, try saying the word, having them repeat it, put it on an index card, say it after you, etc.  The most fun is the tactile approach- have them trace the letters on sandpaper, a carpet square, or in CHOCOLATE PUDDING.  All these sensory activities help the brain to “remember” the words.  These are fun activities that should make learning seem like play!

Blessings to you in this Advent Season.
