Happy New Year! After a nice restful break, we are back into the swing of things.

8th Social Studies

This week eighth grade is starting Chapter 19 and will be studying the Progressive reforms of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They will be looking at reforms that affected politics, business practices, and health concerns.  To touch on a bit of local history, we will be studying the presidency of Long Island’s own Theodore Roosevelt.

7th Social Studies

The seventh grade is starting Chapter 5, which will explain what caused the 13 colonies to rebel against Britain and break free as an independent nation. We will begin with the French and Indian War and will then look at the taxes levied on the colonies as a result of the war.

8AA Religion

This week we will be looking at Moses’ last days and death, from the book of Deuteronomy. We will also begin reading Joshua’s account of the spies being sent to investigate the Promised Land. The Memory verse for the week is Deuteronomy 8:11, which is on page 47 of the student book. The quiz will be on Thursday.
