I am looking forward to meeting all of you at our Back to School Night this week on Tuesday, at 7pm!

This Week:

PreK Classes ~ The characters from Sesame Street introduced different types of art to the children.  We discussed classroom rules such as raising your hand and waiting to be called on. It was so much fun getting to know all the students’ names in both classes.  What a smart bunch of children!  The PreK classes enjoyed making their Apple Tree Collage.  This week I will show the children a slideshow of the French artist Monet’s beautiful garden and lily pond.  Students will recreate Monet’s fabulous Lily Pond painting using a paper plate, paint, tissue and construction paper.

Kindergarten ~ Last week I discussed rules for the art room. The class was introduced to Larry, a stuffed snake, who taught them a song about different types of lines. This week we will start a Fall Collage using pencil, crayon, construction and tissue paper. Art concepts: vertical, diagonal, horizontal lines, horizon line, using shapes to draw people and objects

Gr. 1 ~  We discussed the meaning behind the book Rainbow Fish. The class learned how to draw a fish using different lines.  They will use oil pastels for coloring and glitter for Rainbow’s beautiful glittery scale.  Watercolor will be used to enhance the background.

Gr. 2 ~ We reviewed horizon line and using shapes to draw figures.  The class learned a quick rhyme to help them remember how to draw a fall tree.  We are preparing to make a Fall Activity sponge paint creation.

Gr. 3 ~ Students learned about the author and illustrator Faith Ringgold and her wonderful book Tar Beach.  The class has started drawing a picture of a Favorite Family Memory.  They will enhance their drawings using crayons.

Gr. 4 ~  Concepts learned:  space in art, background, middle ground, foreground, overlapping.  The children are creating a landscape collage using construction paper.

Gr. 5 ~  The students are using construction paper and assorted craft materials to create a Candy Corn Character.

Gr. 6 ~  We discussed movement in art and how artists use different lines and colors to create rhythm and movement. The class will use tracings of their shoes as well as watercolor and tempera paints to create movement in their artwork.

Gr 7 ~ Concepts learned:  abstract, warm colors, organic shapes, symmetrical, asymmetrical.  The class is creating an abstract leaf drawing using oil pastels and tracing of organic shapes from nature.

Gr. 8 ~ Students learned about the Norwegian artist E. Munch and his Scream series of paintings.  They are creating a drawing of a phobia using markers and crayons.

Art Elective ~  We learned about the abstract paintings of artist Sally Trace.  Students will be using different lines to create new spaces for their abstract paintings.

Keep Creating!
