This Week in Art:
Calling All Artists! This year’s Doodle for Google Art Contest invites all of our K-8 students to express their creativity by drawing their very own Google Doodle in response to the prompt “My wish for the next 25 years.” The winning Doodle will be displayed on the Google homepage for 24 hours and be awarded a college scholarship! You can learn more details about this exciting contest and how to submit your entry from the parent letter and forms sent home with your child. *Students in grades 3-8 also have the forms posted in their Art Google Classrooms. The deadline for submitting your artwork is March 14, 2024. Questions regarding the contest can be directed to Mrs. Kerwin [email protected]. Good Luck to all and Happy Doodling!
Our youngest artists (PreK) will be painting their rendition of V. Kandinsky’s “Concentric Circles” painting. The Kindergarten class will be learning how to draw their own Self-Portraits. Using small mirrors they will analyze and select crayon colors that will match their eye, hair, lips and facial tones. First Graders will create a magazine collage based on “shades of green.” The Second Grade class will finish up their Lines and Swirls oil pastel drawings based on the style of V. Van Gogh.
Third Graders will learn about the artwork of Surrealist S. Dali. The lesson will culminate with the class creating their own Surreal Collage. This project is a Third Grade Favorite with lots of giggles, giggles and MORE giggles! Fourth Grade will complete work on their Food Painting as Fifth Grade completes the shading on their Optical Illusion Tunnel drawings.
The Sixth Grade class has already received tutorials on lettering styles which will inspire them to design their Graffiti Tags. Each Tag should have a colorful and attractive style and reflect the student’s personality. Seventh Grade will continue weaving their Mug Rugs. Eighth Grade will spend the next two week working on filling in their Profile Collages. They are coming out great!!! Finally, our Art Elective Class started building their Wood Sculptures.
Keep Creating!
