This Week in Art
Our ECC classes will finish off the Winter season by making Polar Bear Masks out of paper plates and tissue paper. Kindergarten will start a lesson on Self Portraits. This will culminate into a project where the students use mirrors to draw and color their own self portraits. First grade will finish up their Shades of Red collage just in time for Valentine’s Day. Second Grade will start their Wild Thing Construction Paper collages this week — always a Second Grade favorite project!
The Third Grade class will learn about Surrealism by viewing the artwork of artist S. Dali. This will result in the students creating their very own surreal scene using magazine cutouts and crayons. Fourth grade will finish up their chalk pastel sunset drawings. They learned how to blend colors using paper towel and cotton balls and to draw the reflection of colors from the sky to water or surfaces on the ground. Our Fifth graders will be engaging in a lesson that will definitely challenge their use of imagination. They will be creating a new creature by using several different body parts from three to four different animals. Then they will need to draw an environment where the creature could exist. Imagine a a flying giraffe that can swim in the ocean!!!
Sixth Grade will finish up drawing and coloring in their portraits of another student in class while Seventh Grade will use charcoal pencil to add the final details to their Winter Scenes. Both classes have done an awesome job on these projects! Eighth grade is in the process of creating unique scenes out of their fingerprints. Some students have started strategically printing their fingerprints on football fields, beaches and cruise ships they have drawn. Imagine the fingerprints with faces wearing helmets and stick legs running on a football field. Or, picture a fingerprint with stick legs wearing scuba gear under the sea! Guess that’s why I call this project Fingerprint Frenzy, you really have to think out of the box.
I couldn’t be more proud of my group of eight girls using acrylics to paint on canvas. Each one of their paintings is coming out wonderful! Pictures below….
Keep Creating!
