This Week in Art
I am excited to announce that the Doodle4Google Art Contest is returning for its 15th year! Doodle4Google is an annual art contest where students in grades K-12 get to express their creativity by drawing their very own Google Doodle in response to a prompt. The winning Doodle will be displayed on the Google homepage for 24 hours! This year, I’m happy to share that the prompt will be: I am grateful for…
The Parent/Guardian Letter/Entry Form went home with your child this week explaining all the details of this exciting contest. Even though the contest is optional I strongly encourage all K-8 students to enter. Please visit the website https://doodles.google.com/d4g/how-it-works/ to learn more about the contest, discover how to submit and find resources as well as exciting prizes! And, remember, the deadline for electronic submissions is March 7, 2023 11:59 pm.
This week our ECC classes will learn how to paint with dots like the artist Seurat! The classes will be using watercolors and Qtips to paint a flower made of hearts. They will also be learning some color theory as they mix red and blue to make purple and yellow and blue to make green. Our Kindergarteners will be learning about the beautiful art created from the Kenyan tribes in Africa. They will be making their own paper plate necklaces decorated with colorful beads following a planned pattern. First Grade will be making clay coil pots for their unit on sculpture. The Second Graders will finish their drawings inspired from the Impressionistic style of Vincent VanGogh.
Also this week our Third Grade class will learn about Matisse’s famous late-in-life art work, his paper cut-outs! After viewing some of Matisse’s most popular pieces, the class will make their very own Cut Paper Collage. Our Fourth graders will put the final details on their very realistic and delicious-looking Food Drawings. The Fifth Grade class will finish up their chalk pastel Snowman at Night drawings. The class did an excellent job of capturing the shadows cast by the moonlight!
The Sixth grade will continue to work on their Portraits this week after learning about drawing correct facial proportions. Our Seventh graders will be working on their Winter Snow Landscape scenes as they mix up new tints of color for blue and purple. Finally, the Eighth Grade class will finish up their Japanese Notan designs this week.
The Art Elective class has completed half of their canvas painting of Snoopy taking a snooze on a Winter day. It has been a joy to work with such a fine bunch of talented artists!
Keep Creating and Enjoy Your Week!
