In Art this Week:
The PreK classes have been learning about Polar Bears which means it’s time to make our fun and very realistic-looking Polar Bear Masks!!! We’ll be using lots of white tissue paper, white paint and a black pom pom to top off the cut out paper plate mask. Kindergarten will finish up their “Weather” drawings this week. You will see a “stormy day,” a “winter snowstorm,” and lots of “sunny beach day” pictures pinned up in the hallways. First Grade will be starting a Mixed Media Collage made out of construction paper, yarn, a photo image, and cotton balls. These will be glued onto a student painted watercolor background….more to follow. Second Grade will be finishing up their Evergreen Tree Mixed Media Collage as well this week. I can’t wait to post their beautiful, Winter creations!
The Third Grade class will be working on their Book Character Masks again this week. They are using construction paper, markers, buttons and yarn for hair. They tell me that “even the smallest of details can make a difference.” So cute, you never know what they will say to make you smile! 🙂 Fourth Graders will learn about the food art of artist Wayne Thiebaud and get a chance to show off their own. Fifth Grade will learn about Optical Illusion Art and learn how to draw optical illusion tunnels by using a shading technique.
The Sixth Grade class has been very busy adding so many embellishments to their African Tribal masks…they’ll finish this week. Seventh Grade will finally finish adding the charcoal pencil details to their Winter Landscapes. I have to say they look very professional!!! Eighth Grade learned about artist Frank Stella’s Protractor Series artwork. They will continue to work on their protractor designs this week. Finally, the Art Elective class started a Low Relief Paper Roll Sculpture using cut up paper towel roll pieces and glue. This week they will paint their sculptures and add texture with metallic paint markers.
Keep Creating!
