It’s a New Year and we are eager to create together in the art room!
Our youngest students (PreK) will be using their fine motor skills and some cut up colorful squares of tissue paper to make beautiful Stained Glass Mittens! Their teachers can hang the mittens across the classroom windows and let the sunshine sparkle through during the upcoming chilly winter months. Kindergarten will be sharpening up their cutting and coloring skills as they put together a jolly snowman collage. First Grade will use inspiration from Caralyn Buehner’s exciting book Snowmen at Night to create drawings based on the adventures of some very life-like fictional snowmen characters. The Second Grade class will learn about how artists depict occupations in their artwork and will make their own drawing of a chosen occupation.
Third Grade will be delighted to complete the last glistening details to their beautiful Winter Birch Tree watercolor and tempera creations. Our Fourth graders will enjoy a lesson on graphic stencil design. They will be able to create a beautiful graphic design of their own out of cut up tagboard shapes and oil pastels. The Fifth Grade will sharpen up their shading skills as they use chalk pastel to create a moonlit scene of a Snowman at Night (also based on the Caralyn Buehner book).
Sixth Grade will finish up their Poinsettia centerpiece drawings from last year! 🙂 They will then start a new unit on the Art of Africa…..more to come soon. The Seventh Grade will be excited to finally start painting their Winter Scenes. They will be mixing white into purple or blue paint o create tints of color based on shadows cast in the snow. This process will challenge the students to use their analytical skills and is always a favorite class project every school year. Our Eighth graders will be finishing up their snow globe creations and I can’t wait for you all to see them hanging up in the hallways! Finally, our 2nd Trimester group of Art Elective students will be recycling some old pomegranate juice bottles to create their very own snowman.
New Year Blessings to all of you in 2024!
Keep Creating!
