This Week in the Art Room…

Our ECC classes enjoyed the book A Snowy Day by E. J. Keats.  They used dyed shaving cream and blue paint to illustrate Peter’s adventures in the snow.  The Kindergarten and First grade classes have been learning the names for all different lines by reciting a poem about Sammy the Snake.  Yes, Mrs. Kerwin even has a stuffed snake named Sammy so she can pose Sammy the actual way the lines should be drawn on the art paper!!!  This week Kindergarten will learn how artists “see” the weather by viewing paintings from different artists.  They will then draw a picture showing a person experiencing a rainy, sunny, snowy, stormy or windy day.  First grade will finish up their Snowmen at Night scenes this week and Second grade will complete their Aerial Snowmen as well.  The Third Graders will start drawing the details and shading for their Winter Birch Tree scenes.

Fourth Grade will learn about the delicious “food paintings” from the artist Wayne Theibaud.  Our Fifth graders will be using chalk pastels to make a drawing of a Snowman at Night.  They will apply what they learned about perspective, value and shading. The Sixth Grade will finish up their Graffiti tags this week.  Seventh grade will learn about mixing tints of colors as they paint snowy scenes with shadows from the sun or moonlight.  Eighth graders will learn about the art of Japanese Notan and create a Notan design out of colored construction paper.

Art Elective class used pencils to draw and plan out the different areas to painting a scene of Snoopy taking a Snooze on his house during a snowy Winter day. This Thursday we tackle the background sky. ***Don’t forget your old shirts!!!

Keep Creating!
