News from the Learning Center

After teaching First Grade at Trinity for 27 years, I have had the privilege of running the Learning Center for the last 3 years. One of the most common questions I receive is:  My child is struggling. What can I do to help?

Here are some suggestions to help your child:

  1.       Stay calm.  Children pick up when a parent is anxious.
  2.      Praise your child.  This helps them develop self-confidence and promotes self-esteem.  Praise their efforts and let them know you       are    proud of them.
  3.     Don’t get angry!  It is so easy to get angry, especially when a poor grade comes home or your child is having difficulty with homework.
  4.      Keep positive.  Let your child know that you love them unconditionally.
  5.      Talk to your child’s teacher.  Don’t wait for report card time. Teachers need parents to partner with them so they can work   together to focus on meeting the needs of your child.  Ask for suggestions and communicate regularly.
  6.    Consult with professionals.  Have your child’s hearing and eyesight checked.  Ask your pediatrician for referrals to determine if there   might be a developmental problem.

Above all, keep in mind that all children learn differently and at different rates.  Be realistic in your expectations for your child’s academic progress.  Partner with your child’s teacher and develop a positive relationship.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Final Week to get your re-enrollment form with the $175.00 fee into the office.  Because of the snow day, we will extend the fee cut off date until this Friday, February 6.  After Friday, the fee will increase to $250.  So save that $75.00 and get your re-enrollment forms in by this Friday.  All re-enrollment must be completed by March 1 so that we can assess classes for next year.  You can download the form off our website at TrinityLI.org under admissions.

Mom’s Bible Study

Attention Moms:

Ever wonder how some moms look like they have it all together, and you feel like you are crumbling? Ever feel like the worst mother for scolding your child? How about those moments you will treasure forever and you want to shout it from the rooftop? Well, here’s your chance to dig into the Bible, with other Moms, and learn what the Scripture says!

We will meet in the staff faculty room at Trinity the second and fourth Thursday every month, starting Thursday 2/12/2015. Mom chit-chat starts at 7p, then we will begin a Moms Bible Study at 7:30. It should last about an hour.

Any questions, email Karen Mann at  [email protected].

8th Grade Info

The second half of the dance fee is now due.  Letters went home last week. Please send in the fee ASAP.

More 8th grade graduation information will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.

School Closings

Several parents have indicated they are not getting our automated phone calls informing them if school is closed or open during inclement weather.  We have several avenues that we use to inform parents of school closings;  Channel 12 news, News12.com (even if you don’t have Optimum, you can get News12.com on your computer), email blasts and our main phone number will have a recorded message.  If you have changed your phone number or email address, kindly let the office know so we can update that information.  If school happens to be on 2 hour delay, you must call your district transportation office to find out what time the bus will come for your children.  When there is a 2 hour delay, there is no morning care available.  It is not an easy call to close school the night before. As much as we would like to, we have to rely on the school districts and their decisions.
