How fast the first half of the school year has gone by!  My first graders have come so far but still have so much learning to do. Through all the years of my teaching first grade, I have learned as much from my students as they have learned from me. Here are some facts about first graders:

  1. First graders wonder about the world and ask a lot of “what if” questions.  There are always many discussions during our science and social studies lessons!

  1. Kids in first grade love rules, cling to boundaries, and would appreciate a how-to book for every part of their life. The children know the rules of the classroom and try very hard to follow them.

  1. Fluency is one of the ultimate goals of first grade reading.  Kids with good reading fluency flow from word to word; their words move slowly from one word to the next.  They give some words more emphasis than others, read with emotion, and show feelings through the sound of their voice.

  1. First graders are at an optimal age for learning a new language.  Our first graders are so fortunate to have Spanish class every week.  They are learning so much this year with Miss Vaca.

  1. Children in first grade are very concerned with pleasing the adults in their life, and often crave affection from parents and teachers. There are lots of hugs in first grade.

  1. Kids are starting to notice written words everywhere and may drive parents crazy by reading anything and everything out loud!

  1. Kids who are successful and happy in early grades are more likely to hold onto that confidence and motivation to keep learning.  That is one of our goals in our classroom, to make learning fun!

    A Teacher’s Prayer

Lord, please bless my students

And help them as they grow

May I teach them faithfully

The things they need to know

So they may face the future

Knowing they’re prepared,

And when they think of school day

May they know their teachers cared

Mom’s Bible Study

Attention Moms:

Ever wonder how some moms look like they have it all together, and you feel like you are crumbling? Ever feel like the worst mother for scolding your child? How about those moments you will treasure forever and you want to shout it from the rooftop? Well, here’s your chance to dig into the Bible, with other Moms, and learn what the Scripture says!

We will meet in the staff faculty room at Trinity the second and fourth Thursday every month, starting Thursday 2/12/2015. Mom chit-chat starts at 7p, then we will begin a Moms Bible Study at 7:30. It should last about an hour.

Any questions, email Karen Mann at  [email protected].
