Social Studies –

It was fun learning about our parent’s jobs and sharing them with the

class.

Science – ICE

Does salt affect ice?

What does ice weigh?

We are forming hypotheses (guesses) and then testing them out with

with our experiments.

WEEKLY READER – “Ice;

Book:  I AM SNOW

Literature  – FOLK TALES

1) THE MITTEN (a Ukranian tale)

We will use the Tresselt and the Brett versions and compare them.

2) PETER AND THE WOLF (a Russian tale)

We will read a summer then a winter version of the story.

We will then view Walt Disney’s version of Peter and the Wolf.

 

Music – Instruments of the Orchestra

Using the folk tale of Peter and the Wolf, we will learn about the

sections of the orchestra – Brass, Woodwind, Strings, and Percussion

as well as the musical motifs for each character.

 

Art – Creating our own Snowman friends

Lacing our mittens

 

Video – The Snowman

Snack – Snowman Soup aka Hot Chocolate

 

PE – Riding our tricycles is so much fun.  We’re learning to stay on the

“road” and respect fellow drivers.

 

Our Centers have included:

Smart Table, Community Puzzles, Snowman Floor Puzzles,

Housekeeping Area, Building Blocks, and our all time favorite –

Legos.
