Happy Monday, Everyone!

Homeroom/General Announcements

Last week the students were given the packets for the Washington, D.C. trip, which is scheduled for March 26-27. In the packet are our itinerary, contact information for the hotel, and several information forms that need to be returned. Please be sure to return these papers no later than Friday, February 13th.

Also due back as soon as possible are the sheets on which you may specify how you would like your child’s name written on his/her diploma.(Can you believe we’re already at this point?!)

Today forms for yearbook boosters will be distributed, and those should be returned by February 27th.

8th S.S.

This week in social studies we are going to focus on the Progressive Era. This was a time period from the late 19th century and on into the early 20th century, in which many political, economic, and social reforms were passed. We will be looking at voters became more empowered, how women finally gained voting rights, the beginning of the conservation movement, and much much more! The students will also be doing an activity relating to the election of 1914 in which they will have to apply the information learned in class to a real life situation. More details and maybe even pictures will follow next week.

8th Math

The students are continuing to work on applying the linear equations. This week they are focusing on using data from graphs and tables to write equations and make predictions. This website gives some examples of practical applications of the linear equation. I expect to  finish Module 5 in the coming days, and the Module quiz will likely take place on Wednesday, January 21st.

8th Religion

This week we are studying the book of Judges. The Judges were not just folks who made important legal decisions, but they served primarily as military/spiritual leaders. The students started with studying Deborah, and this wee will continue with Gideon and Samson. It is very interesting to see how these people were both richly blessed but also deeply flawed at the same time. There many lessons to be gleaned from their lives. The Memory verse for this week is Isaiah 6:8, which may be found on page 57 of the student book or here. Hopefully the response in this passage is how we always respond to God’s call.

Have a wonderful week and please feel free to email me if there any questions.
