Second Grade Notes
October 20th – 24th
I hope everyone is doing well. We are back in the swing of things this week after the Terra Nova’s last week. As always if you have any questions please let me know.
Here is a look at what we are working on this week:
Math: We are beginning chapter 3 which is Basic Facts and Relationships. We will begin with basic additions facts. We will also make a ten to add. Then we will continue with adding 3 addends. We will also relate addition and subtraction.
Reading: Our story this week is Animals Building Homes. We will talk about how this is Informational Text. Our Target skill will be to look at Text and Graphic features. We will also concentrate on our Target Vocabulary for the story.
Phonics/Spelling: In phonics we will work on Final Blends of words. The blends we are working on are nd, ng, nk, nt, ft, xt, and mp. Our spelling words also have these common final blends.
Grammar: We will continue to work on Plural Nouns.
Science: We will continue our study of plants and how they adapt to their environment.
Social Studies: We will talk about Large and Small communities and customs and traditions.
Reminders:
- Wednesday, October 22nd is Orange Day.
- If you have not sent in your $10 for the class parents please do so as soon as you can. We are having our first class party next week.
- Next week for Spirit week the 2nd grade is invited to participate in 3 different days. Pink day, Dress your best, and Heritage day. A memo was sent home on Tuesday regarding this.
- If any parent would like to be a Mystery Reader please let me know. The children really enjoyed our first reader. We will have another one this week!!
