Greetings! I hope this entry finds all of you well. To begin, the Lutheran Schools Association will be holding their annual Spelling Bee at Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, Queens, on Thursday, January 23rd at 7:00 p.m. If your child is interested in competing, he or she should notify Mrs. Saitta or myself by this Thursday, January 16th.

8th Social Studies

This week we are finishing looking at the Progressive Presidents and we will also take a look at some modern-day muckrakers who are still working to uncover corruption and scandal. We will also begin learning about Women’s Suffrage. In addition to our regular curriculum, we will examine Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision for American society, and how we can continue his legacy.

7th Social Studies

This week the seventh grade will continue to examine the causes of the American Revolution and the people who helped start the movement. At the end of last week, the students analyzed the specific laws and taxes put on the colonists, and took on the roles of colonists to develop a plan of action against each of the laws. This week the students will present their ideas, and we will find out how their ideas compare to what REALLY happened. At the end of this week, seventh grade will also take time to study the legacy of Dr. King.

8AA Religion

This week we will begin by reading about the story of the spies entering the Promised Land. They will then work on putting together a “news” report on the action recorded in the book of Joshua. The memory verse for this week is Psalm 46:1,7, which can be found on p. 49 of the student book.
