READING – This week we will learn the hard “c” sound as in the word “cat.” We will also review the beginning and final “t” sound, make predictions in stories, discuss words that are opposites, answer riddles, delete syllables and tell the part of the word that remains, and talk about “at” and “an” word families. In addition our new high frequency word is “are”, and our mini book is, “Nat Is My Cat”.

MATH – Our Math work is writing numbers, discovering hidden partners for, and counting objects related to numbers 9 & 10.

RELIGION – Our focus is on the Bible stories of Simeon, and the visit of the Wise Men.

SCIENCE – We’ll discover the characteristics of and compare living and non-living things.

SOCIAL STUDIES / SCHOLASTIC MAGAZINE – We will discuss penguins.

HANDWRITING – We will write capital and lower case “C-c.”

JOURNAL – Each student will write his/her name in a sentence along with an action word, and draw a picture to represent themselves doing the action.

REMINDERS:

Dress your child appropriately for cold weather, with layers that can be removed easily in school.

On Friday, 1/10 The Nature Company will bring some live animals to visit the Kindergarten students.

Please have your child in school on time as when a student is late he/she misses morning work time.

Thought of the week

“I am not a teacher—– only a fellow traveler of whom you asked the way. I pointed ahead—-ahead of myself as well as of you.”

George Bernard Shaw
