Welcome back to a new week at Trinity! Here are the updates for religion and social studies.

6th Religion

This week we will wrap up Unit 3 by learning about the prophet Elijah and the difficult calling he had in Israel. We will study the story of Naboth’s vineyard, which will illustrate the evil he was up against. Next Friday, February 14th, will be the test on Unit 3. We will begin reviewing on Monday, February 10th. The memory verse this week is Joel 2:13.

6th Social Studies

On Monday, we will begin our study of Ancient African monarchs. We will start off by studying Mansa Musa (the wealthiest man in the history of the world!), and then we will study the first Christian king, Ezana of Ethiopia. On Wednesday, the students will begin individual research projects on many more African kings and queens. They will present their projects next Wednesday, February 12th.

7th Religion

This week we will continue to look at God blessing His people through the lens of God allowing the sun to “stand still” when Joshua led the Israelites into battle against the Amorites. Then, we will look at how we can give back to God in gratitude for all the blessings He richly gives us through the story of the widow giving all she had as offering.  Later in the week, we will begin reviewing Unit 3. The test will be on Wednesday, February 12th. The memory verse for this week is Psalm 103:12.

7th Social Studies

This week we will get into the Presidencies of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. We will study the expedition of Lewis and Clark, and then our second war with Britain, the War of 1812. Next week we will wrap up Topic 5 by learning about the presidency of James Monroe. The test will be on Friday, February 14th.

8th Religion

This week we will finish Unit 3 by studying the wisdom of Solomon. Then, we will review Unit 3, and the test will be on Monday, February 10th. The memory verse this week is James 1:5.

8th Social Studies

This week we will be entirely focused on World War I. On Tuesday, the students will get to take part in a trench warfare demonstration (using paper balls), and then we will look at how the U.S. impacted the war and treaty. Next week we will review Topic 12 and the test will be on Friday, February 14th.
