Happy New Year! I hope everyone had healthy and blessed holidays. We getting back into full swing this week.

6th Religion

This week we will learn about David’s life before he became the King of Israel. We will learn about why he was so successful against Goliath, and the conflict between he and Saul. The memory verse for this week is Ephesians 4:32.

6th Social Studies

In social studies, we will begin studying Ancient China. We will start by learning about he earliest settlements along the Huang River. Then, we will learn about the early ruling dynasties and the development of traditional Chinese culture.

7th Religion

In December, the students completed a lesson on angels helping people in the Bible. This week, they will work on research projects about the different types of angels and what they do. They will have the choice of making a slides presentation, writing a story book, or making a poster to present their research. The memory verse this week is Psalm 34:7.

7th Social Studies

Before Christmas, we studied how the Constitution was written, and this week we will begin a series of lessons on civics and citizenship. The test on Topic 4 will be on Wednesday January 15th.

8th Religion

This week we will learn about Samson, who is described as the “weakest strong man” in our curriculum. Then, we will study the book of Ruth and how her story contributes to the historical time period, as well as the Bible narrative of Jesus’ genealogy. The memory verse for this week is Philippians 2:13.

8th Social Studies

Before Christmas, we studied the Gilded Age and Progressive Era reforms. This week, we will study the early civil rights leaders of the 20th century, and then how American culture was shifting due to all the societal changes. The test on Topic 11 will be on Wednesday, January 15th.
