Hello Fabulous Fourth Grade Families,
Merry Christmas! I hope that you had a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving. A friendly reminder Trimester 1 ends on December 2nd. All work in this week’s workback wednesday folder is from Trimester 1. We will also be going to the Santa Shop on Tuesday 12-3 at 10am.
Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:
ELA: This week we will begin our next read-aloud The Last Holiday Concert, by Andrew Clements. We will focus on plot and summarizing. There will be a spelling test on 12-13 based on words from The Last Holiday Concert. In writing we will be editing our argument writing drafts, our final drafts will be due on Friday 12-6. Students have the option to either type or handwrite their final drafts. In grammar we will be learning about irregular plural nouns.
Math: This week in math we will complete Module 9, Area of Rectangles. There will be a quiz on Friday 12-6. We will be completing a nutcracker area project throughout the week that will be counted as the test grade. Please help them Helpful handouts, videos, charts, reteach pages, and the HW can all be found on Google Classroom and are excellent resources.
Religion: This week we will be learning about Advent, and the Christmas story. Students will be working on creating a picture book that retells the Christmas story!
Social Studies: This week we will begin our study of the American Revolution. We will be focusing on why the revolution began.
Science: This week in science we will continue our unit of study, The Birth of Rocks. In this lesson, students will investigate how differences in lava types explain differences in the shape and eruption patterns among volcanoes. In the activity, Bubble Trouble, students compare two different types of “lava” — thin and thick. They use this information to figure out why volcanoes have different shapes and how the type of lava explains why some volcanoes explode. Also, students will explore how solid rock breaks apart into smaller pieces through a process called weathering (including root-wedging and ice-wedging).
Blessings,
Ms. Stainkamp
