Welcome back to a new week at Trinity! As we have our Presidential election this Tuesday, each of the classes will learn about the main candidates from both parties and how our voting system works. We will use Jr. Scholastic as our guide through the process. However, we will continue on with our regular curriculum the rest of the week.
6th Religion
The lessons we will be covering in religion this week will remind us of the importance of trusting in God’s plans and letting His will be done. We will learn about Korah’s rebellion against Moses and Aaron, and then the incident of Moses getting water from the rock at Meribah. The memory verse this week is John 17:17.
6th Social Studies
This week the students will be working on research projects about ancient Egyptian and Nubian rulers. The students will be guided through the process in class, so there will not be much social studies homework this week.
7th Religion
This week we will continue studying the work of the Holy Spirit, specifically how He brings us to faith and keeps us strong in our faith. We will study these themes through the book of Philemon and the story of Peter confessing Jesus to be the Christ in the book of Mark. The memory verse this week is Titus 3:5.
7th Social Studies
In addition to studying the voting process, we will learn about the movement towards independence from Britain. We will look at the very early battles between the Patriots and British, as well as the process of writing the Declaration of Independence.
8th Religion
This week we will focus on the importance of trusting God in seemingly impossible situations. We will learn about the 12 spies who scouted out the Promised Land, and then how God affirmed that Moses and Aaron were His chosen leaders with the study of Korah’s Rebellion and Aaron’s staff miraculously sprouting and blossoming. The memory verse this week is Isaiah 41:13.
8th Social Studies
This week in eighth grade social studies, we will be studying both the growth of industry in the late 19th century and early 20th century, as well as the labor movement that arose during this time period. To help reinforce the lessons of this chapter, the students will get to play Monopoly and learn about how this ties into to our unit.
