Dear Parents,
We’ve had a busy week learning about pumpkins and the letter “P”. We learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin and this week we will be dissecting a pumpkin to see all the gooey goodness inside. To date, we’ve learned how to recognize and sound out the letters “A” for Apple, “F” for Farm, “D” for Duck, “B” for Bats, and “P” for Pumpkin. We’ve learned the colors red, yellow, brown, and orange. We also made fun pumpkin crafts to decorate our wall upstairs and our community wall downstairs.
We will continue learning about pumpkins this week. The children will learn the letter “S” for spider. They will learn how to recognize, sound out, and trace the letter “S.” In addition to pumpkins and spiders, we will learn about firetrucks as we prepare for our visit from the Fire House next month. We have more fun spooky Halloween crafts that we will make to continue decorating the halls and our classroom in preparation for our Halloween themed week next week.
Last week we worked on the circle shape and the numbers zero and one. This week we will learn about the square shape and continue with our numbers, adding the number 2. We will also learn about the color black. During centers, the children will continue to practice tracing by tracing shapes and their names. We will also continue to work on cutting scrap paper to strengthen our cutting skills. We will continue with our rice, pumpkin, and spider sensory bin theme.
During religious instruction this week, the children will learn how Joseph forgave his brothers. We will continue our Thank you God prayer and we will start to learn the song “This Little Light of Mine”.
October is also Dwarfism Awareness Month. We ask all students to wear GREEN on Wednesday, October 23rd, to raise awareness about Dwarfism. We will be selling ice-cream on Wednesday afternoon this week, for $2 each, during mid-day and afternoon dismissals to raise money to donate to Sloan Kettering for cancer research. We hope you will participate in our fundraiser by purchasing some. The message we are teaching this month, and always, is that we are all more alike than different and we should treat all our friends with kindness.
