Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:
ELA: This week we will focus our ELA on our class read aloud I Survived the California Wildfires, 2018, by Lauren Tarshes. There will be a comprehension test on Friday 10-25. We will be working on the skill of summarizing, as well as looking at character development. We will also continue our first writing unit focusing on writing a good paragraph. Again in writing we will be focusing on using the RACE strategy to write a complete response and paragraph. In grammar we are looking at correcting fragments and run-ons.
Math: This week in Math we begin our study of Unit 2: Multiplication and Division Problems. Module 5 is titled multiply by 1 digit numbers. We will not be using IntoMath. We will be learning how to do standard multiplication. Please encourage your child to use graph paper to help them line up their columns. It is vital that your child knows their multiplication facts, a few minutes of fact review at home daily is extremely beneficial. Please help them Helpful handouts, videos, charts, reteach pages, and the HW can all be found on Google Classroom and are excellent resources.
Religion: This week we will continue our Religion Kindness Challenge for the month of October, as well as begin our unit of study on the New Testament.
Social Studies: This week in S.S. we continue our study of the geography of New York. We will finish Chapter 2- Three World Meet. We finished chapter 2 earlier than planned, the test will be on Wednesday 10-23
Science: This week we will begin our first unit of science called Waves of Sound. Our driving question is, How can we make sound waves visible? There will be a science test on 10-30. A review sheet will be completed this week to help students prepare.
Blessings,
Ms. Stainkamp
