Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:

ELA: This week we will focus our ELA on our class read aloud I Survived the California Wildfires, 2018, by Lauren Tarshes. We will be working on the skill of summarizing, as well as looking at character development. We will also continue our first writing unit focusing on writing a good paragraph. Again in writing we will be focusing on using the RACE strategy to write a complete response and paragraph. In grammar we are looking at complex sentences.

Math: This week in Math we begin our study of Unit 2: Multiplication and Division Problems. Module 4 is titled on Mental Math and Estimation Strategies. We will be completing lessons 4.1, 4.2, and 4.5. We will focus the remainder of our time during this module on traditional 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication. There will be a quiz on Friday 10-18. There will be NO TEST for Module 4. It is vital that your child knows their multiplication facts, a few minutes of fact review at home daily is extremely beneficial. Please help them Helpful handouts, videos, charts, reteach pages, and the HW can all be found on Google Classroom and are excellent resources.

Religion: This week we will continue our Religion Kindness Challenge for the month of October, as well as learn about the Armor of God.

Social Studies: This week in S.S. we continue our study of the geography of New York. We will begin Chapter 2- Three World Meet. We will be learning about the Dutch West India Company, and the beginning of colonization. Chapter 2 vocabulary words will be sent home this week. Students should begin to familiarize themself with the vocabulary words to help prepare them for the S.S. test the first week in November. There will be a vocabulary quiz on Friday.

Science: This week we will begin our first unit of science called Waves of Sound. Our driving question is, How can we make sound waves visible? There will be a science test on 10-25. A review sheet will be completed this week to help students prepare.

Blessings,
