READING- Last week we studied the beginning “s” sound, and this week it is the beginning and ending “m” sound. Our high frequency word last week was “I” and this week our word is “is.” We read the mini book “Dan, Dad and I,” and we will read “I Am Sam” this week. Please practice these mini books with your child for practice in reading fluency. Periodically I have each child read to me individually and grade their ability to read fluently. Other concepts we are learning and/or reinforcing are, blending sounds to form words, identifying rhyming words, and answering questions in stories that help your child recall story details.

MATH- We are at the mid point of our first module . Each child will be asked to complete tasks individually that have been learned thus far in Math. You can help by reviewing: sorting of objects into groups by how they are the same, number identification to ten, the writing and counting of numbers in and out of sequence 0-5, and hidden partners of  numbers 1-5, (i.e. 2+2=4, 3+1=4).

RELIGION- We have been discussing the Bible story of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and Esau.

SCIENCE- We have been discussing animals and their babies and how animals and people get ready for Autumn.

SOCIAL STUDIES- We are beginning to study the First Thanksgiving.

HANDWRITING- Our focus is on writing the letters “S- s” and “M-m”. Please guide your child at home in forming the letters correctly on the lines that we practice in school. Each time we learn a letter I will expect your child to write it correctly whenever they print, especially in their names.

JOURNAL- Your child will print the sentence “I am … and then print his/her name, and draw a picture of him/herself.
