Hello fabulous fourth grade families,
I hope and pray that you all had a relaxing and enjoyable President’s Week Vacation. Fourth Grade is having a busy and exciting week as we wrap up our celebration of Black History Month. Students will share their Black History Month Hero Pennant, finish solving the Black History Month Hero class wide puzzle, and attend a school wide assembly on 2-29 to wrap up this year’s celebration.
Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:
ELA: This week in ELA will be focusing on reading texts to help us answer the question, why do we need government? We will be reading shared text such as Speaking Out Against Child Labor, A World Without Rules, and See How They Run. There will be a reading comprehension quiz on Friday March 1st about the shared texts. Copies of the texts will be posted on Google Classroom (I do not want like send the heavy textbooks home). We will also be examining our next type of written text, expository test. And be learning about future tense verbs.
Math: This week in math we will begin Module 13, Using Fractions to Understand Angles. We will be exploring the different types of angles, lines, and types of fractional parts. We will also begin exploring how to use a protractor. (I have extra protractors if your child does not have a protractor.) This is a vocabulary heavy chapter in math, please help your child become familiar and confident with the vocabulary.
Religion: In religion we will continue learning stories of the Old Testament.
Social Studies: This week in S.S. will begin Chapter 5- A New Nation. We begin to learn about the formation of our new government, and learn about the specific documents that govern the U.S.A.
Science: In science we will continue our second unit of study, Waves of Sound. We will be further exploring sounds. We will be answering the question, How can you make sound waves visible? We will be making sound machines to show our learning.
Blessings,
Ms. Stainkamp
